The NSW Research and Development Online Matchmaking Platform (NSW R&D Matchmaking Platform) is an initiative of the NSW Government to better connect research ‘sellers’ and ‘buyers’ and link researchers to research infrastructure and expertise.
The establishment of the NSW R&D Matchmaking Platform was recommended as Priority Action five of the Turning ideas into jobs - Accelerating research & development in NSW Action Plan.
The objective of establishing an R&D Matchmaking Platform is to match and connect participants in the R&D ecosystem to facilitate collaboration where:
- researchers work closely with government and industry to solve problems and translate ideas into new products, services and jobs
- industry, government, start-ups, scale-ups and SMEs gain easy access to the best technology, research infrastructure and expertise
- research infrastructure and services across NSW are identified, promoted and better utilised to address the problems and needs of researchers, government and industry.
The development of the NSW R&D Matchmaking Platform is managed by R&D NSW within Investment NSW, with the support of other NSW Government agencies. The NSW Government has committed $2 million for the establishment of the R&D Matchmaking Platform.
To further inform the development of the R&D Matchmaking Platform, a scoping study was undertaken with targeted stakeholder consultation to better understand how the platform can best serve innovation and R&D communities in NSW. The scoping paper outlines the expected function and services by the platform through preliminary market discovery and the design of the initial product.
