NSW Universities Intellectual Property Review

In September 2022, the (then) Minister for Science, Innovation and Technology, the Hon Alister Henskens SC MP, sought advice on intellectual property (IP) settings to help drive collaboration for and commercialisation of R&D undertaken in or with NSW universities.

The Office of the NSW Chief Scientist & Engineer (OCSE) engaged the Hon Annabelle Bennett AC SC to oversee the review.

In collaboration with the NSW Innovation and Productivity Council, OCSE undertook a short desktop review of reports, innovation metrics and university IP policies in local and select international settings.

Interviews and an expert panel series were used to provide advice on current settings, what is or is not working, and potential areas for improvement.
