Innovative Technologies Receive $5 Million

Funding

Four NSW companies will share in $5 million of NSW Government funding to bring their innovative technologies to market.

Minister for Planning and Public Spaces Rob Stokes announced the Physical Sciences Fund grant recipients at an event held at the Sydney Startup Hub last night.

“This fund supports the work of some of the State’s best minds by ensuring their ingenious technologies are developed and commercialised,” said Mr Stokes.

“The innovations will be translated into devices and applications which will make lives easier for communities across the State.

“The technologies presented were outstanding – a system to track crop disease, an advanced satellite ground station to improve and increase data transfer and a solution for poor internet connectivity in the bush.”

Member for Vaucluse and Parliamentary Secretary to the Premier Gabrielle Upton also attended the event and said the calibre of recipients was inspiring.

“It’s incredible to be amongst such talented people who are devising cutting-edge technological solutions to modern-day problems. They are great examples of how our great ideas in NSW can create new jobs, products and industries,” said Ms Upton.

“It’s an honour to be able to award them with funds to help them continue doing this important work.”

NSW Chief Scientist & Engineer, Professor Hugh Durrant-Whyte said the funding announcement followed the Premier’s launch of the Turning Ideas into Jobs – Accelerating Research & Development in NSW Action Plan.

“This is further proof of the Government’s commitment to support our best minds and most agile small businesses as they solve some of the State’s pressing problems,” said Professor Hugh Durrant-Whyte.

“In addition to financial support, the Physical Sciences Fund will be a mechanism to provide entrepreneurial know-how and facilitate collaborations to give each funding recipient the best chance to grow into a strong successful company.”
