Industrial Translation Research Program
The Australian Research Council provides funding to research hubs and training centres to support researchers to gain real-world skills through the Industrial Transformation Research Program.
The Office of the Chief Scientist & Engineer (OCSE) provides co-funding to research hubs and training centres in NSW under the Industrial Transformation Research Program. In 2025, OCSE provided co-investment to:
ITRP | University | Grant | Description |
---|---|---|---|
Training Centre for Future Leaders in Quantum Computing | The University of Sydney | $120,000 | The quantum computing industry is expected to play a significant role in Australia’s future prosperity. Economic modelling by the CSIRO predicts that quantum computing will generate $3.6 billion in revenue in Australia and create 12,700 jobs nationally by 2045. The aim of this training centre is to identify and train the leaders of tomorrow's quantum workforce, providing students with capabilities spanning the full quantum computing stack as well as agency over their high-tech careers. |
Research Hub for Human-Robot Teaming for Sustainable and Resilient Construction | University of Technology Sydney | $110,000 | The ITRP Hub for Human-robot Teaming for Sustainable and Resilient Construction (HaRTCon) will transform the current ways of working in construction from predominantly manual operations onsite to Human-Robot Teaming (HRT), i.e. humans collaboratively partnering with intelligent robots, to address the significant challenges faced by the construction industry. |
Training Centre in digital platforms for Net-Zero Building Ecosystem Lifecycle (NOBEL) | Western Sydney University | $110,000 | This ITRP Training Centre is essential to address the urgent need for a sustainable transformation in Australia’s building and construction sector, which is one of the largest contributors to national carbon emissions and resource consumption. This ITRP directly addresses these goals by fostering the integration of advanced digital and eco-friendly construction techniques. The mission is to integrate net-zero project delivery approaches, efficient techniques and eco-friendly materials into building design and construction stages through platform-based methods for new buildings and major renovations. We will develop the advanced capability for the building construction sector to go net-zero. |
Training Centre for Smart and Sustainable Horticulture | Western Sydney University | $110,000 | The objective of this training centre is to support education and training to address the growing need to train the next generation of protected cropping specialists. These aims will be achieved by: |
Research Hub for Photovoltaic Solar Panel Recycling and Sustainability (PVRS) | UNSW Sydney | $50,000 | Photovoltaic (PV) solar panels’ massive deployment plays a vital role in global and Australia’s Net Zero 2050 Targets, but the massive panels must be recycled at their end of-life (EoL), est. 60-78 million tonnes by 2050, to enable genuine lifecycle Net-Zero and to meet Australia’s Waste Action Plan. ARC Research Hub for PVRS can meet the above urgent need to transform Australia’s PV solar panel recycling industry by developing advanced technologies of green PV recycling and materials reuse, redesigning PV panels for recycling and reliability and advancing policy informing by leveraging interdisciplinary expertise and collaborations across the value chain. |
