Bushfire & Natural Hazards Technology Network

Bushfire & Natural Hazards Technology Network Information Session Questions

Is there a preferred operating model?

There is no preferred operating model and applicants are welcome to propose a model as long as it covers the requirements in the Bushfire & Natural Hazards Technology Network Guidelines.

Is the network NSW-centric?

The purpose of the Network is to help drive innovation and solve the 'wicked' problems around bushfire preparation, response and recovery to establish NSW as a world-leader in delivering technology and innovation in this sector. To achieve this, the Network needs to take a global perspective, to actively connect with international stakeholders and increase the awareness and exposure of NSW businesses overseas for the overall benefit of NSW citizens.

Do you need to provide detailed financial model projections?

Yes, applications should provide comprehensive financial model projections, recognising that there is scope to adjust the financial projections, where appropriate, once the Network is up and running. Proposals should also highlight co-funding and additional sources of revenue.

Can end-user agencies be partners as part of a proposal or is this viewed as a conflict of interest?

End-user agencies can be partners, provide letters of support or be part of a consortium.  A key role of the network is to establish relationships and trust with key end-user agencies and deliver beneficial outcomes for stakeholders involved.

How do you see the Network building commercial capabilities within the sector?

A key function of the Network is to actively upskill and build business and researcher capabilities to deliver globally competitive, world-class technology companies through activities including establishing a panel of commercial/business experts that businesses or researchers can tap into and learn from at key stages of their product development.

While funding for the Network cannot be used for incubation or startup-type services, it will be complementary to these services and utilise existing programs to build these capabilities, such as Cicada's Deep Tech Commercialisation Program, funded by OCSE.
